Goals & Result Areas

Houston Endowment's Education Program seeks to ensure that the people of greater Houston have access to quality educational opportunities to improve their economic status and quality of life.

Student Success: Houston Endowment seeks to improve educational outcomes and narrow the achievement gaps in greater Houston by contributing to initiatives that ensure students are ready for kindergarten, middle school, high school, and college, and complete a postsecondary certificate or degree.

The Foundation supports efforts to

  • Understand and communicate the relationship between college completion and the opportunity for individual and community prosperity;
  • Develop regional approaches to the challenges many students, particularly low-income and first-generation students, confront in their journey toward the successful and timely completion of a postsecondary credential; and
  • Engage the sometimes disparate sectors of the educational continuum, from early childhood through higher education, to work collaboratively in aligning their academic and student support programs to create a seamless education system for students.

Leadership: Houston Endowment seeks to improve educational outcomes in greater Houston by contributing to the development of effective governing boards and institutional leaders.

The Foundation supports efforts to

  • Understand and communicate the relationship between institutional leadership and student success;
  • Provide opportunities to improve the quality and effectiveness of school district and community college governing boards; and
  • Develop the capacity of public school principals and district leaders to create school environments in which all children have the opportunity to succeed.

Houston Endowment may occasionally support special projects that do not align with the Foundation’s targeted areas of focus and preferred approaches, yet meet criteria of high interest to the Foundation. Grantseekers are advised to communicate with Education Program staff prior to submitting a proposal not clearly aligned with stated priorities.
